The Latest at SFUSD:
Strike Updates
- SFUSD and UESF have not yet reached a contract agreement and have declared an impasse, meaning they were unable to reach a full agreement through the bargaining process.
- Because SFUSD remains under state fiscal oversight, any agreement must meet state financial viability requirements, and proposals that exceed those limits would not be approved by the state fiscal advisor.
- The fact-finding process now underway is part of the labor process and is intended to bring more clarity to the differences between the two sides and outline possible paths forward. The report is expected Wednesday, February 4.
- If a strike occurs, schools are expected to close due to staffing and safety requirements. Based on recent local union actions across the state, any strike would likely last 1–8 days, not weeks or months. The earliest a strike could occur would be Monday, February 9, though it could also be later.
- California districts are required to provide 180 days of instruction, and any missed days due to a strike would be added to the end of the current school year.
- Because parents and families are not in the bargaining rooms, much of this process can feel confusing and opaque. The fact-finding process matters because it is one of the few formal steps designed to create shared information and clarity when negotiations stall.
- Our hope is that this process helps move both sides toward an agreement that avoids disruption and keeps students at the center.
- If there is a strike, families will be impacted in different ways. Please take 30 seconds to complete our quick survey so we can better understand needs and advocate for families.
