Leadership Accountability

Leader Accountability

When parents come together, we can make sure the School Board, District leaders, and City officials keep their promises to our kids.

SF Parent Coalition holds the BOE, District, and City leaders accountable to doing what they say they will do for San Francisco Kids

Our Parents Priorities

Focus on Student Outcomes

The district and Board of Education should use new research-based programs when existing materials aren’t working, implement evidence-based interventions, ensure sufficient support for teachers to master new materials and strategies, and complete regular assessment of student outcome data.

Fix the Budget Deficit

The district and Board of Education must make the strategic and sustainable budget decisions necessary to prevent a state takeover of SFUSD and to prioritize children’s learning. A fixed budget will limit negative impacts to students and be rooted in a baseline of excellence at every school.

Transparency and Accountability

The Board of Education and SFUSD need clear data and information from our schools to make important decisions for our students. SFUSD should monitor the impact of all major decisions and exhibit leadership in elevating the importance of district-wide and school-level student achievement.

Board of Education Accountability

We break down every BOE report in straight-forward language, mobilize parents to attend the meetings, and hold the Board accountable to strong student focused governance.

The Board of Education is made up of seven elected members who serve four-year terms. They set policies for all SFUSD schools, establish educational goals, approve curriculum, and manage the district’s budget. They also handle staff appointments, purchases, property decisions, and union contracts. Learn more at the SFUSD Board of Education website.

Take action at the City Level!

Although the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor of San Francisco do not hold official power over SFUSD, their positions allow them to exert significant influence. Their endorsements, budgetary decisions, and community leadership can shape public opinion and policy directions affecting the district.

A great place to start with broader citywide advocacy is getting to know your district supervisor. Who’s that, you say? Our Board of Supervisors (like a City Council) includes representatives from 11 districts across our city. Their mission includes responding to the needs of the people of the City and County of San Francisco and establishing relevant policies.

When you’ve identified an unmet need related to children and families in your neighborhood, especially if you have other families in agreement, email them!

Increase your chance of getting heard by joining one of our campaign teams. We occasionally seek the Board of Supervisors’ and Mayors’ help holding SFUSD and the City accountable to doing best by its students and families.
