I My Public Schools

Why We Love San Francisco Public Schools

We believe that public education in San Francisco is more than a service, it’s a reflection of our values, our diversity, and our collective future.

San Francisco’s public schools are more than classrooms, they’re communities where our kids learn, grow and discover who they are. Choosing public schools isn’t only about where children learn, it’s about investing in community, equity, and shared opportunity. Here’s why we’re proud to stand with SFUSD public schools:

  • Diversity is our strength. Our schools bring together children from every background, culture, and neighborhood — reflecting the real San Francisco.
  • Rich opportunities for learning. From dual-language programs to the arts, from STEM to social justice, our schools give kids a chance to explore their passions.
  • Rooted in equity. Public schools are one of the few places where we commit, as a city, to educate all children together.
  • A community for families. Choosing public schools connects us to other parents who care about equity, advocacy, and the future of all San Francisco kids.

When you choose public schools and encourage others to do the same, you’re not just selecting a school. You’re affirming:

01.
That public education is a public good worth investing in.
02.
That diversity and equity aren’t just goals, they’re realities worth nurturing.
03.
That supporting SFUSD public schools builds opportunity, not just for your child, but for all children.

Going Public Matters

Enrollment isn’t just a number, it’s the lifeline of our schools.

Since 2012, SFUSD has lost 4,000 students, with another 4,600 projected to drop by 2032. Every student who enrolls strengthens school funding, supports teacher staffing, and advances equity across our city.

At the same time, chronic absenteeism is costing SFUSD millions each year in both lost learning time and funding. Simply put: our kids need to be in our schools for those schools to thrive.

That’s why our “I Love My Public School” campaign is at the heart of our advocacy. Celebrating the joy, diversity, and community of SF public schools isn’t just about pride — it’s about action. By enrolling our kids, showing up every day, and encouraging other families to do the same, we’re helping secure the resources and stability our schools need to succeed.

Parent Voice

For us, public school is a lot about living our values as members of our community. I also picked a school that I knew needed my energy and would commit to hearing teachers and staff feedback and advocate on their behalf. It isn’t always an easy street but real life isn’t and I wanted my kids to see and experience things that encouraged authentic critical thinking and problem solving. I wanted them to develop a love for the Mission, learn their heritage language, and develop empathy and understanding for others.
