Board of Education Accountability
SFUSD School Board Accountability
At SF Parents, we believe families deserve a school board that puts students first, governs responsibly, and earns the trust of our community. As a parent-led organization, we track the San Francisco Board of Education closely, so parents and voters know what’s at stake and what strong leadership looks like.
We organize parents to testify at meetings, publish resources families can actually use, and share clear, accessible updates. Because when the Board works for kids, all of San Francisco wins.

Good Governance
Passing responsible budgets, hiring strong leaders, and rebuilding public trust.
Why the School Board Matters
The seven elected commissioners of the San Francisco Board of Education oversee a $1.16 billion budget, set curriculum policy, hire the Superintendent, and make critical decisions that impact the future of more than 50,000 students.
When the Board governs well, schools thrive.
When dysfunction takes over, kids lose.
That’s why we’ve made it crystal clear what we expect from our Board—and why we hold them accountable by:
Showing up to School Board Meetings
Holding regular meetings with commissioners to voice parent concerns
Publishing our SF Parents Report Card, so families know exactly how each commissioner is doing
What You Can Do
➕ Join other parents at a BOE Meeting
The Board meets twice monthly on Tuesdays at 6:30pm. Come connect with other parents, share a meal beforehand, and see how decisions get made. You can attend in person or online. See the Calendar and Agenda.
➕Speak Up at a BOE Meeting
Nervous about public comment? We’ve been there too. Check out our tips for making your voice heard effectively.
➕ Stay Informed
Parents shouldn’t have to be watchdogs, but until the Board puts kids first, we will be. Our students can’t afford another year of distractions.
Emily de Ayora, parent at Monroe Elementary
Every decision the Board makes has a ripple effect in our school’s classrooms. We’re here to remind them: real accountability means putting students above politics.

Hold the Board Accountable
Parents across San Francisco have endured years of instability at the Board of Education, recalls, resignations, leadership fights, and adult political drama. Each distraction pulls focus away from what really matters: how SFUSD serves its students.
Parents are the strongest voice for change in SFUSD.
