Demanding process and rationale transparency for the SFUSD community
Hello Dr. Wayne and Board of Education,
Last night, we met with 50 parents from impacted schools across SFUSD, whose schools were listed for closure earlier this week. As you can imagine, it was an emotional conversation, and just the beginning of many connection points between us and families who are impacted. We will do everything in our power to ensure that their voices are heard and demands for their children’s educational experiences incorporated into your plans. Above all else, student learning and their educational experience at SFUSD has to be priority #1, including during this difficult time as well as on the other side of it.
While demands will certainly vary across school sites, one immediate request was common. And that is for increased transparency of how SFUSD got to this list of schools. Please share with the broader community, tonight at the town hall if possible, or otherwise as soon as possible:
- How were the metrics determined overall, and how did the Stanford algorithm work?
- What was the result of the equity audit? How was race and socioeconomic status weighted for marginalized groups during the composite scoring process?
- How was the final list of schools chosen? We heard there were four scenarios created by Stanford; was this list one of them?
- How do the schools chosen tie back to the budget and staffing situation SFUSD expects for next year?
Thank you for addressing these questions from the community as soon as possible.
Meredith, on behalf of SF Parents
